GROUNDS FOR SCULPTURE COMMISSIONS MAJOR
THEATRICAL WORK INSPIRED BY SEWARD JOHNSON’S WORK
Hamilton, NJ (July 21, 2014) – Grounds For Sculpture (GFS), the 42-acre not-for-profit sculpture park in Hamilton Township, NJ, is pleased to announce the premier of a major new theatrical work. “Backstories: The Minutes leading up to Iconic Moments in Art,” will be presented on Friday, August 15th at 8pm by A Saturday’s Child, an arts and entertainment company with a knack for creating special events.
‘Backstories, the minutes leading up to iconic moments in art’ centers on three works from Seward Johnson: The Retrospective on view at Grounds For Sculpture through September 21, 2014. The pieces chosen are ‘Unconditional Surrender’, the nurse and sailor’s embrace in Times Square at the end of the second world war; ‘Mona Lisa, a Reason to Smile’; and ‘Forever Marilyn’, capturing her updrafted dress scene from the movie ‘The Seven Year Itch’.
‘Backstories, the minutes leading up to iconic moments in art’ is a theatrical flight of fancy dramatizing what might have happened just before the iconic moments captured by the sculptor.
A Saturday’s Child will present a trilogy of one-act plays, portraying what was said and what took place, just before that embrace in 1944, that smile in 1507 and that updraft in 1954. In each ‘Backstory’ a single possibility is woven among a hundred truths. This approach makes ninety-nine percent of the tales fact-based, allowing for very believable stories. Audiences will be absolutely intrigued, incidentally informed and wonderfully entertained.
Backstories was written and conceived by Dambra Sabato, and directed by Sabato and Raymond Croce. Actors include Angela Carolfi, Allison Kessler, Glenn Kraft, Jenna Kuerzi, Dambra Sabato, and Erika Smith. At the helm for this production are A Saturday’s Child’s Executive Producer Chelsea DiPilla, Managing Director Raymond Croce and Josh Samors, Technical Director.
‘Backstories: The Minutes leading up to Iconic Moments in Art, History & Culture’ is an ever growing series of original one act plays written by Dambra Sabato and offered by A Saturday’s Child.
